Obituary for Archie Guy D'Amico

Archie Guy  D'Amico
Archie Guy D’Amico, age 90 of Lebanon, Illinois, departed from this life on March 10, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, Illinois. He was born on November 30, 1927 in Niagara Falls, New York, the eldest son of Nicholas and Angelina (Dipanne) D’Amico.
On September 23, 1950, he married Electra Betty Kapernaros of Lowell, Massachusetts. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2007. On July 29, 2008, he was united in marriage to Darlene Schmitz of Highland, Illinois. She passed away on November 19, 2016.
Archie enlisted in the US Navy on December 1944. His last assignment was aboard the USS L.K. Swenson and sailed in the Pacific and China Sea. After his enlistment was up he served in the Naval Reserves until he was honorably discharged in August of 1954. Following his discharge, he attended Central Radio and Television School in Kansas City, Missouri. He joined Trans World Airlines at LaGuardia Field, New York City, NY and was employed as a radio operator until 1958. He then became an air traffic controller with the FAA at the New York’s International Airport. In 1961, he left the FAA and was employed as a field service representative for General Dynamics Electronics Headquarters in Rochester, NY. He was transferred to Scott Air Force Base, Illinois in 1966. In 1967, he left General Dynamics and joined MSI Data Corporation which became Symbol Technologies. Archie retired in 1994 and continued to live in Lebanon. He spent his retirement years in service to others, especially through the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph’s Parish in Lebanon. He was also active in several community organizations and participated in numerous charitable events.
Archie loved food and making buffets for all his family and friends. Archie had a great sense of humor and had a great, booming voice and loved to sing. He enjoyed serving his family and friends and no one left his home without a full stomach and a great time of fellowship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry D’Amico and John D’Amico. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Oriana) D’Amico of Troy, Michigan; Stephen (Andrea) D’Amico of Clermont, Florida; Paul (Donna) D’Amico of Piedmont, Missouri; David (Terrie) D’Amico of Jupiter, Florida; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Corieri of New York; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the church, with the funeral mass following at 11 a.m. Following cremation, his ashes will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
